The Health And Safety Executive have confirmed that they will be offering 4000 hours of free training to tradesmen to try and increase awareness regarding the dangers from asbestos.
The presence of asbestos in many of our buildings represents a continuing threat for workers. Despite knowledge of the dangers of asbestos for decades, tradesmen such as joiners, electricians and plumbers are still often put into situations where they may be exposed to asbestos in the course of their employment.
At present, at least 20 people in such occupations die each week from exposure to asbestos. The training has been welcomed by Asbestos Victim Support Groups as a way of helping to cut down future deaths from asbestos-related conditions such as mesothelioma, asbestosis or lung cancer.
